BAILARINA is the first show for babies by the Sobrevento Group. Aimed at children from six months to three years old, it is a show that has matured over five years of discussions and hard work to establish and develop Theatre for Babies in Brazil. Sobrevento partners with the experienced Spanish company La Casa Incierta, which specializes in theatre for this age group, and has another show for babies – Meu Jardim – in its repertoire.

The show takes as its theme the sense of balance, understanding that the search for physical and emotional equilibrium might not be liberation, but imprisonment, which can lead us to abstract the world, causing us to focus too much, to close ourselves off, and not to look broadly and truly at what surrounds us. Thus, the show BAILARINA was created, combining this theme with Object Theatre, through the central use of a music box and necklaces, which acquired different poetic functions in the staging.

Formed in November 1986, GRUPO SOBREVENTO is a professional theatre group that maintains a repertoire of shows and is dedicated to the theoretical and practical research of puppet, form and object animation. Since its founding, the Group has maintained a stable and uninterrupted work and has performed in more than one hundred cities in 23 Brazilian states. SOBREVENTO was also present in Peru (1988), Chile (1996, 2002, 2009, 2010, 2017, 2020, 2022), France (2017), Spain (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2018), Colombia (1998 and 2002), Scotland (2000), England (2013), France (2017), Slovakia (2018), Ireland (2000), Argentina (2001), Angola (2004), Iran (2010), Mexico (2010), Sweden (2011), Estonia (2011), China (2017, 2019), India (2020) and Cuba (2023), representing Brazil in some of the most important International Theatre and Puppet Theatre Festivals.

The Group's shows are very different from each other, whether in theme, form, animation technique used, the space for which it is intended or the audience it is aimed at. The Group has received awards or nominations for awards of the importance of Mambembe (Funarte/Ministry of Culture), Coca-Cola, Shell, APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics) and Maria Mazzetti (RioArte), always being positioned by specialized critics among the best of their seasons. Twice consecutively, in 1994 and 1995, SOBREVENTO received the Incentive Award from the Ministry of Culture, for its body of work and "for its contribution to the panorama of Arts and Culture in the country".

In addition to its theatrical performances, SOBREVENTO develops various activities in the field of puppet theater and animation, such as courses, workshops, lectures, and roundtables, both in Brazil and abroad. It has also organized two International Animation Theater Festivals in Rio de Janeiro – Rio Bonecos 92 and Mostra Maria Mazzetti 95 –, was artistic director of the 1st International Theater Festival of Rio de Janeiro – Rio Cena Contemporânea – in 1996, and organizer of the National Animation Theater Festival "Puppet Theater and Music" in 2001, the 1st RioArte Puppet Showcase – Great Masters of World Puppet Theater in Rio, the "Fantoches nas Praças" and "Praça dos Bonecos" Festivals, and was curator of the SESI Puppets of Brazil and the World Festival and the International Festival of Object Theater – FITO. It also organizes the Primeiro Teatro and Primeiro Olhar Festivals, created in partnership with the La Casa Icierta Company (Brasília / Madrid) and dedicated to Theatre for Babies. In addition to the festivals it organized and directed, it was responsible for bringing and touring several foreign puppet theatre companies throughout the country.

Throughout its career, SOBREVENTO has created numerous shows, most of which remain in its repertoire. Directed, still today, by Luiz André Cherubini and Sandra Vargas, with the constant presence of Miguel Vellinho, its three founders; and having incorporated into its artistic core Anderson Gangla, Maurício Santana, Agnaldo Souza and Marcelo Amaral, among others, the SOBREVENTO GROUP is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the leading Brazilian specialists in Puppet Theatre and one of the main stable theatre companies in Brazil.
